These quirky little aircraft, with their panoramic views from the cockpit, are ideal for short trips over the countryside. This is a great way to fly on a fine summer's day! Our instructors will give you a thorough briefing and then take you on a trial flying lesson. We are sure you will end up as enthusiastic as they are! You will be given a detailed briefing from your instructor, which includes how to use dual controls, how to enter the aircraft and pre-take off checks. You then take to the sky, climbing to up to 1500 feet above ground level in a flexwing (open cockpit) or fixed wing (closed cockpit - similar to a mini plane) aircraft (please state preference at time of booking). The instructor will demonstrate the controls and then, if the instructor is happy, the controls will be passed to you. Happy flying! Gliding is perhaps the most elegant way that humans can get airborne. It's a breathtaking way to fly, soaring on the same rising currents of air that the birds use, with no roaring engine to spoil the peace. You'll start with a briefing session so that you'll know what to expect, before climbing aboard your dual-controlled glider with your expert instructor. Then the glider is towed into the air by a light aircraft (okay, this bit is noisy, but you have to get airborne somehow). Once you're at a height of around 2,000ft the rope is released, the aircraft peels away and you're free to soar and circle lazily in the thermal currents. You might be joined in the thermal by a bird - you can never do it as well as they can, but it's great fun trying! You'll enjoy breathtaking views of the countryside below you and the sky around you. The planes that most of us travel in are so big you hardly even know that you're in the air. Well, things couldn't be more different flying in a microlight. In fact a trip on one of these nippy, lightweight little flying machines is about as close as you can get to being a bird. It's an exhilarating experience - and one which needs strong nerves and a real head for heights! You'll start off with a short briefing from your instructor, before hopping into your microlight. There are two types of microlight: 'flex wing', based on the frame of a hang glider; or 'fixed wing', which is similar to a conventional light aircraft. They all have dual controls, so you're in safe hands at all times. You'll be impressed by the speed and manoeuvrability of these little craft and your instructor will encourage you to have a go at the controls yourself (we don't reckon you'll need much encouragement). If you get a taste for it, your flying time can count towards a microlight Private Pilot's Licence.
